Measuring Madness!

We've been talking about ways to measure things in Room 1 a lot over the past couple of weeks, and we've had some hands-on practice as well.

This particular lesson/activity required partners to measure the distance between two "x's" located in various spots around the room.  They measured with their feet, and then checked to see how close they were with an actual ruler.

What they found out is that the ruler was the most accurate - and that the partner with the largest foot usually came the closest to the correct length/distance from x to x.

The students worked well together, and helped each other do a great job of measuring pretty accurately as seen here by Frankie and Lillian.

There was also a lot of great discussion between the partners as they recorded their data and and worked together.

In this lesson we measured with "inches" which turned into a foot or feet.  Next time we may use centimeters or maybe even meters depending on what we're measuring!

Until next time -
